All of us would agree if someone says that much of management is actually common sense. In fact, if one thinks about it, it is not much of a discipline at all, like medicine, engineering or law surely are. It must seem to many a budding manager that a lot of the jargon used in management education, many of the hi-funda concepts which he/she needs to gulp down are nothing but hogwash, perhaps a secret scheme by managers themselves to instill some sort of seriousness into their common sense, to make it look as if they are really doing something worthwhile.

But what do these terms, these high-flying fundas actually mean? Yes, Kotler must have his views on each one of them, but what do you think? MICANVAS 2009 proudly presents ‘Blogger’s Park’, an event where we allow you to let your imagination run wild. For this event, the participants will be given seven terms related to marketing. You have to interpret any ONE of the terms in any way possible, and express your opinions on them in any way you might wish to. Entries can be in the form of a blog post, poetry, picture, collage, song, video or even a haiku!

The seven terms are:

• Cash Cow
• Break-even point
• Co-creation
• Guerilla Marketing
• Word of Mouth
• Below the Line
• Customer Value

Quite obviously, this event will take place solely in the online space. You are required to submit your entry to bloggerspark.micanvas@gmail.com by 11:59 PM on the 18th of October, 2009.

How will the entries be judged, you ask? Well, all that will happen right here, on this blog, and in true democratic spirit - by the people. All received entries will be put up on this blog by 19th of October and the winner will be decided simply by the number of comments on his/her entry.

A few things to remember when commenting on an entry:

• Anyone can leave a comment, but only from a valid id, and not as an anonymous person.
• The comment should start with ‘I Like!’.
• People are free to add any further comment that they want, but only ‘I Like!’ will count as a point towards the blog post.
• All comments have to be on this blog i.e. www.micanvas2k9.blogspot.com.

Rating closes at 11:59 PM on the 25th of October, after which the number of valid comments will be counted for each entry and a winner declared on the 27th of October.

Guidelines to keep in mind for this event:

• Only individuals can take part in this event. No teams will be allowed.
• The names of all deliverables should follow the format Blogger’s Park_(Individual Name)_(College Name).
• The subject of the mail should be of the format Blogger’s Park_(Individual Name)_(College Name).
• The mail should contain the following details:

1. Name
2. Institute
3. Program
4. Email address
5. Telephone number (with city code)

• Any videos created for the purpose need to be uploaded on www.youtube.com and the link needs to be sent to us. It will be uploaded on the blog as a widget.

Should your entry be crowned the best of them all, you stand to win Rs. 2000! So without further delay, give our dear old friend Kotler some rest and come up with your own interpretation of management fundas.
